- John,
-
- I guess I didn't quite express my opinion clearly and it seems as you
- have taken major offence by it. Our training site is looking for the
- best possible products avaliable to help our students build commercially
- viable software products. The graduates of this course are not looking
- for a free meals, they are building companies that will develop and
- deliver world class software. What this means to them is that upon
- graduation they will own a company and a product. But wait, we are
- licencing educational software most of the time that means the products
- cannot be used for commercial practices. This mean they will have to buy
- the tools they used to build their product so it can be legally marketed.
-
-
- Unfortunately we are run through government. This isn't a private school
- that can charge huge quantities of cash for enrollment. The system may
- suck but that's the way it is. So for us, it comes down to dollars and
- sense. What makes the most fiscal sense as well, what is financially
- viable for these students upon graduation?
-
- No matter what, we will have a copy or two of lightwave. We already have
- copies of 3DSTUDIO and TRUESPACE. Were not trying to be biased about
- products. We want to show a good range of products, evaluate their
- features and let these entrepreneurs evaluate them for their strengths,
- weaknesses, price points, etc...But we still need to give 300 students a
- good grounding in 3D modelling, rendering and animation. That means we
- need a site licence for 1 product. Again that means finances. The
- school can't afford 30,000 for a site on any one product, so we will have
- to go with the best product available in our price range.
-
- As a side benefit for the companies involved, 300 students per year will
- train a majority of their time on 1 system. The students who need
- software with certain functionality will buy that software when they
- graduate because they know how to use it. That makes it profitable for
- them. This is a fact from the graduates already in business from our
- program. What they know best, they buy.
-
- I sincerely hope that you do not have a poor view of educational
- institutions. We are doing the best job we can to provide excellence in
- education while living under the roof of Government.
-
- If you would like to talk further, give me a call or send me personal
- email. Thanks,
-
